VES Art Walk & Spaghetti Supper!!
art-walk3

Vilonia Elementary parents and students came out strongly in support of their school's art program yesterday evening.  A spaghetti supper/dessert silent auction/artwalk, and bookfair kept everyone happy and entertained.  There was something for every appetite!  Mrs. Berry was the overall VES Dessert Diva, selling her cheesecake for $65. A delicious and entertaining evening was enjoyed by all.

With over 4,500 items collected, and the number still mounting, Vilonia Primary School met the THV challenge and then some! And the reward? Two lucky pigs received kisses from the principal, a few teachers, and the crew of Today's THV.

Here, Mr. Ratliff plants one on Abigail the pig.

Gifted Education

Vilonia School District offers a comprehensive gifted and talented program for students in grades K-12.  Grades K-2 learn in  weekly whole-group enrichment with a certified gifted specialist. The Primary Education Thinking Skills (PETS) Program forms the basis for this curriculum, using logic, analysis, elaboration, invention, visual and spatial perception, and evaluative thinking.

At the end of second grade, referrals are taken from teachers, parents, students, etc. for consideration for the pull-out gifted program in grades 3-4.  After the identification process, students who are placed attend CLUE (Creative Learning in a Unique Environment) class for a minimum of 150 minutes per week with the gifted specialist on their campus.

When identified gifted students enter grades 5-12, a variety of pre-AP, AP, concurrent college, and seminar courses are offered.  Student progress continues to be monitored as the identified students advance through the grades.  In addition to the advanced courses offered, the gifted program also sponsors the elementary, middle school, junior high, and senior high school quiz bowl teams, as well as writing projects, the Arkansas Young Artists annual competition, spelling bee, and numerous other activities.

Any questions about our gifted program may be directed to Chere’ Beavers, Gifted and Talented Coordinator/Specialist.
